Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a class of 3, 4, and 5 year old preschool students. Some of us are deaf and hard of hearing and use sign language to communicate. Others of us are at school to receive some early speech intervention before we go to Kindergarten. My class is in an all early childhood special education building. We focus on the specific needs of preschool students. I have the only class of deaf and hard of hearing preschoolers in the district.
My preschool students are very interested in the block area. They enjoy building and constructing new things, however, they occasionally need new materials to keep them interested. Our district has made huge cuts and our classroom budgets do not allow us to purchase "big ticket" materials for the classroom.
We need new materials for our block area. The alphabet blocks will allow them to continue building while also practicing their literacy skills. These blocks are large sturdy building blocks with a letter on the front. In addition, my students will be able to practice spelling words and work on letter recognition while building with them. My students love to play with their hammer and nail set, however, it is so old, the board is so full of holes that it no longer works. With a new board, they will be able to once again practice hammering (which develops their fine and gross motor skills) and pulling the nails out.
Your help will ensure that my students have new and engaging materials in the block area that not only are interesting for them to play with, but they also encourage developmentally appropriate learning at the same time!
