My fourth grade class is a severe low poverty area of South Carolina. My class rarely leaves there area and have little or no contact with anyone outside of their home area. They are loving and love to learn. They are bright and love to read.

Some of my students have never seen a snowflake. A few have seen one. Only two have seen more then 2 snowflakes. Ten years old and they have no clue what snow is or how it appears. They have no clue where it comes from or what it feels like. They have no books that relate snow or snow stories.

We need books and DVDs that tell snow stories both fiction and nonfiction. We need snowflake books that show snowflakes up close. We need to see live on television snow falling from the sky and piling up into drifts. We may never see that for real here in South Carolina, but we need to experience what it could be like.

You can help my students experience what snow can look like. They need to work on literacy skills and this gift can help. Please help my students experience the snowfall in books and DVDs. Together we can give a brand new experience to my students. Please donate to this snowy lesson.
