Technology is the future and my students need technology now! I teach Algebra and my class is composed of mostly 9th and 10th graders. I teach at a great school and in a super school system. But as with any system this day and time, money is tight.

Relating Algebra to "real life" can be challenging. I have researched and found wonderful websites and videos that present ways mathematics and science are used in the real world. The problem is my students cannot hear with the speaker that came in the classroom computer...especially when the heat/air conditioning unit is on. We desperately need speakers so I can bring technology to life for my students, especially those that may not have access to the Internet at home.

Many of my students are struggling in both math and science. Thus, if teaching them the traditional way worked, they would not be toiling to be successful in these two areas. I am creating a ‘bag-of-tricks’ to attempt to give relevance to Algebra. Technology is playing a huge part in lesson design in my class, but students need speakers to hear.

I guarantee you that your help will ensure my students are in a technology rich environment and I will strive to bring purpose to Algebra. We loose them so quickly if they do not understand “why.” With speakers in the classroom, I will show podcasts and videos that will give students meaning as to why math and science are important. Who knows what doors this could open for students that may otherwise remain closed?
