Elementary Community Art Museum

My students need 25 for famous works of art.

NOW OPEN! ELEMENTARY COMMUNTIY MUSEUM! Wow! That would be an exciting announcement in my community! I am the visual arts teacher at our school. I teach approx. 600 students a week. We were redistricted last year and are now a Title 1 school. We service many multicultural and low income families.

My students need the opportunity to view famous works of art as if they were displayed in a museum. Many, if not most, don't have the opportunity to visit our local museum and have very little opportunity to visit other prominent museums to see famous works of art. The idea of having a "mini" museum within our school is a very exciting thought. I would love to provide the opportunity for our students, their families and the community to walk through the halls of our school and enjoy famous works of art and "artist learning areas."

The resources I need are many....most of them I will make myself; signs, art critique books, info. fliers, etc. The one thing that would hold this project up are the frames. Could I go to Walmart and buy cheap poster frames? Yes. But real museums don't use those and I want my students to see high quality frames surrounding the priceless art. I think the frames will give our museum a serious edge and help to spur interest and curiosity within our school and our community. So, the frames are the only thing that are above a teachers resources.

I can envision an opening night where students bring their parents around the museum and explain, 1) Museum etiquette, 2) how to look at a work of art, 3)Sharing opinions and ideas. This grant would not only provide the materials for this permanent yet rotating art display, it would give our school and the entire faculty another resource to make connections from their own curriculum to the world of art. CONNECTIONS! CONNECTIONS! CONNECTIONS! Art museum - students - teachers - other curriculum - community - parents = LEARNING! An Art Teacher's DREAM! If you could, please help me see this vision through!!! Thank you so much for your consideration.
