I teach third grade in a high-need community. My students range in age from 8-10, in a mostly white community, with most families serving in the military.

My students do not have many other reading materials in the classroom, other than their text books. I have purchased all of the extra reading material from a book club that I participate in, but I need assistance in providing grade level books for them.

I need any grade level books that can be provided. I would love to introduce my students to multicultural events, history, biographies, and let them discover other areas of the world through reading. I feel that books will benefit my students through a growing interest, and variety to choose from. I feel that if my students had a choice in what they read, they would be excited to discover what lies beneath the cover of the books. I also think it would be beneficial to my students to expose them to different cultures. This would help in our Social Studies lessons, in that we would be able to learn about different regions of the world, and the people that live in them.

You will make it possible for my students to discover new lands, learn about other cultures, hear stories, learn to read, and help them be excited about books. Some of the students will be able to escape the harsh reality of their lives, through stories that will inspire them, give them hope, and help them better their situations.
