This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello. My public school is primarily Hispanic with many of my K-5 elementary students unable to read, speak, or write English at their grade level. In addition, this area is in an urban, high poverty area. Since my previous school closed last June, I taught summer school here and quickly immersed myself into the culture of this school. Students are eager to learn and have a culture that values being respectful to other students and adults. As a result, students are quick learners and high achievers. Each morning dozens of parents walk their children to school and accompany them into the building to get ready for class. At dismissal, dozens of relatives are waiting for their children outside of the school. They are in the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter before and after school. We are the only school in our large district that has this level of parental involvement.

The situation is that I have received a wonderful Canon Power Shot SX20 IS camera from Donors Choose donors. I have taken hundreds of pictures with this amazing camera. While I upload and have Costco develop many of the pictures at my own expense, I cannot print them all even though they capture the spirit or our students, staff, parents and school community. Photos are great if someone sees them. Photos are so easy to take with good intentions of processing and circulating them. Most often cost is a factor is processing so many pictures. If they are printed, then they are taken home and by only a few people. I need a large digital picture frame to display hundreds of the school photos I have taken. I also have no paper for an inkjet printer I am requesting in another Donors Choose project.

The solution is a HP Dream Screen 130 digital photo frame. This digital photo frame can display thousands of pictures for everyone in the school to see. I see 600 students a week and they will certainly enjoy viewing pictures of themselves and other students. In addition, this digital picture frame can display Internet information like the weather through the use of 'widgets' or small steams of Internet data. I want my students to learn that technology is not just a computer but also other useful technology devices that meet specific needs. I will also need a HP 16GB SD card to store the photos. Lastly, I will need HP bright white inkjet paper to print projects and photos from an inkjet printer I have posted in another Donors Choose proposal.

Without your help, these resources are not available to my students. There is simply no budget for a HP digital photo frame, storage card, or ink jet paper. HP is funding 50% of this project so you would only have to fund the other 50% of the cost. DonorsChoose donors are the best in the world.
