Help! How Do I Teach 21st Century Students?

My students need a HP Mini laptop.

Try explaining to six and seven year olds that we don't have computers in our classroom because they are too expensive! To them, it's difficult to think about life without computers! In my first grade general education classroom in New Hampshire, my students are eager to explore and learn using technology. Unfortunately, my district does not set aside much money, if any, for technology within the general education classroom. The overall goal of education is to supply students with the knowledge they need to be effective and functioning adult citizens. Through my teaching techniques, I give them many skills that they will be able to use as an adult. However, computer and technology skills are something that I can't give them at this time. So how will I be able to teach my students basic computer and technology skills needed for almost any adult job or life style without an updated computer in our class? I recently took a technology course, and I was able to gather many ideas that could be used to help differentiate my classroom instruction and incorporate technology. I know that with more technology use in my classroom, I would be able to gain the attention of many hands on learners and technical thinkers while teaching important computer skills. However, with no technology budget for classrooms, this seems to be an impossible idea! I have turned to you to help me supply my classroom with a notebook computer. With this technology, I will be able to model basic computer skills and use popular curriculum based websites to teach the curriculum standards in a new innovative way. I will also be able to make more real life connections to content through the use of virtual field trips and web quests. In a nutshell, I will be able to develop many, many lessons for years to come that will intrigue and involve even my most distracted student. Your help with this project will ensure that my students are able to acquire the basic computer skills necessary in today's society. You will make it possible for my instruction to be more student centered and geared towards 21st century needs.
