Using Recycled Material in Literacy

My students need 36 glue sticks, 20 rulers, one box of card stock, one case of markers, and four cases of colored pencils to write books in our literacy class.

Writers: Using recycled paper to teach others I teach in a very low income area. Our student population is about 75% free and reduced lunches. Many of my students have physical handicaps and hands-on learning keeps them focused.

My students have shown a very large interest in writing books for their younger siblings or students in lower grades. I work nights at an office complex that uses big sheets of paper and I bring them to school for the students to use for drawing and writing on. They enjoy it so much!

With the resources of glue, rulers, markers, pencils, and card stock,we could create our own books by using the recycled paper from the office complex and put hard covers on our books. We could also create illustrations and learn to build the books.

You would make it possible for my students to see the importance of recycling and using our materials wisely as well as helping them pass that message to our younger students. My students are the leaders of tomorrow so they need to learn to respect, honor, and take care of the only environment we have. Setting the example of how to use resources wisely would be of great assistance to them in endeavoring to reuse and recycle.
