I teach high school English Language Development in a poor area of Southern California. My students are learning English and come from many different countries, such as China, Vietnam, Mexico, Cambodia, and Honduras. They are the most sweet, motivated students I have ever taught, and they deserve the best educational experience possible.

The school I teach at does not have many technological resources available to the students. Our classroom has one computer for student use, so it is impossible to do any kind of computer-based assignments or projects. The computer lab is used only by computer classes, so it is not possible for English classes such as mine to get the computer time we need. My students are in dire need of technological skills, both for college and for their future jobs. Our school is wonderful in many ways, but is failing them miserably when it comes to computers and technology.

In order to give them the computer time they need, I am requesting one laptop computer for my classroom. It would be a great start to what I envision to eventually be a class set of laptops available to students. This laptop computer is small enough to easily store away in the classroom, yet large enough to type and use for projects. My students will be able to do Internet research, type papers, and use English software to improve their English skills. My classes are small enough that even one laptop computer will be incredibly useful, and will provide my students with much-needed computer time.

My students come from homes where they don't have much, and I really want my classroom to be an innovative place where they can come and have access to technology. Your help in purchasing a laptop for my classroom will not only improve my students' technology skills, but will help their English skills and help prepare them for college and beyond. Please help make a difference in my wonderful students' lives. Thank you!
