Let's Get Messy

My students need 7 modeling materials that include play foam, modeling sand, papier mache, sand, and Wikki Stix.

I teach art to children with special needs in a high-need community in New York. I go between two different schools and my students range in age from 5 to 11 years old.

My students LOVE to get their hands dirty in art. The messier the project, the more they seem to enjoy and participate in the activity. I recently introduced my students to shaving cream art. We added paint and learned about primary and secondary colors. We mixed the shaving cream with glue and made a blizzard. With my older students, we painted on the shaving cream and made prints. With my students' interest and enthusiasm for getting messy so high, I feel it would be wonderful to be able to incorporate new sensory and tactile materials into our lessons.

My students need sand, papier mache, pastels, playfoam, Wikki Stix, and modeling sand. With these materials my students will be able to continue to explore different art media and to expand their art experiences beyond those of paper, glue, and crayons.

Your help will ensure that my students continue to have hands-on experiences in art. Your support will give my students the opportunity to work with materials that they have not been exposed to and will help keep their creativity and their enthusiasm for art growing.
