Snap...Snap...The Panda Poet Society needs your help! I am a fifth grade teacher who is on a mission to get students excited about poetry and literature in the classroom. However, being in a Title I school, options are not always available to extend our units of study.

However, I am lucky enough to have a class who loves to learn. Many of my students overcome many obstacles just to make it to school every morning. With 54% of our student body on free or reduced lunch, I simply cannot ask for parent contributions. My class last year really enjoyed our poetry unit, but with a lack of resource books, we had to share or work in groups. This made it difficult to complete our poetry anthologies and get different ideas for our coffee house poetry slam.

We need several poetry and riddle books and fractured fairy-tales to help our pandas put their best PAW forward. These books will help enrich student motivation and involvement and serve as part of a collection that will help hundreds of students in the future. It also doesn't hurt that poetry helps develop life-long learners by increasing oral reading fluency and memory skills.

This poetry study is part of our fifth grade tradition and I know that, with your help, we can make a difference this year. My goal is to strive to enrich the curriculum in any way possible. You can be the one who makes this panda poetry tradition come back to life.
