Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach visual art classes in a school where many students come from a low income background. With additional high levels of transient, ESL and high risk students, they often come to my class without the means to procure their own supplies for art class. We rely strictly on donations to fund our art program, and have been fortunate to be able to continue to offer classes that engage and educate students who may otherwise not be interested in a traditional school setting.

Due to the consumable nature of art supplies, I am constantly needing to resupply basics like pencils and paper, as well as more advanced supplies such as higher quality drawing pencils, colored pencils and ink pens.

I am asking for a variety of supplies that will be used in our classroom over the course of the school year, allowing students to express themselves, learn drawing and coloring techniques, and enable them to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when they take their completed art projects home to share with friends and family.

My Project

These supplies of paper, markers, erasers, and pencils will enable my visual art students to learn and practice drawing techniques, from basic to advanced. Thanks to your support, they will be able to work hands on, and create their own beautiful and expressive artwork. With a supply of these essentials, students will all have an equal opportunity to participate and engage in class projects. Visual art skills enable students to both express themselves creatively, and master specific techniques that will help them to succeed in future schooling and careers. Students gain confidence as they progress through the Visual Arts program, and learn to feel empowered in school and in life.
