Super Sonic Sensory Room---Buried in Balls!

My students need 1000 balls to fill our ball pit and 3 bean bags for our calming area.

I work at an early childhood school (pre-K-1) in a high need community. I work with children with special needs. We have identified over 60 children in our school that would benefit from sensory integration. We are creating a sensory room for our children with sensory needs.

We have filled the room with some fabulous items because of generous donors like yourself. We have a climbing wall, a ball pit, a jump-o-lene, a swing system, a pirate ball boat and a bounce house. Three of these items (the ball pit, pirate ball boat and jump-o-lene) can be filled with balls. The problem is we only have a very small amount and it doesn't even fill one of the items. We also need to add bean bag chairs to the calming area.

We really need balls and bean bag chairs. After a year of working on this project, these items will basically complete our room. The balls come in sets of 250 (which sounds like a lot but it really isn't) and we need 4 sets. We have added some great items to the calming area, but I don't have any cozy items for the children to sit on. The bean bag chairs would give them a comfy space to meet their calming needs.

I can't begin to tell you how touched I have been by the generous donations our sensory room has received. I wish each and everyone of you could see the faces of the children as they use this magical place! I have recently started to have my children with special needs bring their typically developing peers with them to the sensory room and it has been amazing to watch the positive interactions. My students are now the "cool" kids because the are the key to getting to use this room. Today, while one of my students with special needs was jumping in the bounce house with two of her friends (from regular ed), she said "This is spectacular!".
