Have you ever tried to speak to 75-80 high school students at one time and have their undivided attention? I teach in a high school media center. The classes we have in the media center usually range from 35- 75 students at a time. Sometimes even more. I present a variety of lessons at all grade levels. Due to the lack of classroom space, many teachers also use the media center as an extension of their classroom.

I am a media coordinator in a school of approximately 2000 students. In addition to the regular duties of a librarian, I teach several classes a semester to seniors on advanced research skills in preparation for the state mandated Graduation Projects. I also teach basic media center orientation classes for the freshmen in the fall and spring as well. The groups can range anywhere from 35-80 students at a time. Without a projector it makes it almost impossible to teach efficiently while making sure everyone can see and hear the material being presented. While the classes are being held in the library there are also students using the computers while others are working at the tables in another section of the library. Unfortunately this adds to the noise and distraction of the students. In addition to the inside noise and distractions, the acoustics and locality of the media center add to the problem. We are on the side of the building that sits along a busy city street. Between the additional sounds of other classes and students already in the media center along with the constant outside noises it is sometimes impossible to hold the student's attention.

If we had a projector the lessons could be presented in a clear, efficient manner. The seniors could participate in more hands on presentations that would allow them to practice for their own presentations they will have to make as part of their individual Graduation Projects. It would also allow the 200 staff members to share their ideas and creative practices with their fellow teachers as well as teachers from all over the county. Since we do host many clubs and community events, this projector would be a major asset to the school. We also have several financial aid classes for the seniors and rising juniors each semester. This projector would allow us to reach out to all those in attendance making sure they have a clearer idea of the information presented.

Our school really needs this projector. As I said earlier it will benefit the 2000 students we currently have and all those who will attending our school in the years to come. It is my goal to support my students in any way possible. I want to have this valuable piece of equipment to not only enhance the presentations and the information being presented, but also to make sure I can reach all students in an interactive, clear, concise manner. Our school cannot get this projector without outside assistance. If the project is not funded this item will be outside our reach. Thanks for considering this proposal.
