Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom is a 6-8th grade Special Education Resource Classroom at a Title I school in a high need community. 90% of the students qualify for reduced or free lunch. The classroom services students with special needs in reading, writing, and math.

My students have disabilities ranging from specific learning areas (math, reading, writing) to mild mental retardation. They have a difficult time with remembering instructions and steps. Also, they have a hard time with writing and generating ideas on their own. We may have a conversation about the topic they should write about, but afterward, they forget what we talked about. They have the capability to achieve, but because of their disability, they need some extra support.

The recorders will serve as a great and much needed resource for the kids. They can record their ideas and thoughts before and during writing to help them generate sentences to write. In addition, the recorder can be used by the teacher to give directions to reading, writing, and math assignments independently. The students are also interested in recording their progress on reading passages and playing them for other students. Also, many of the students have lower reading levels but can comprehend on a higher level. Content delivered verbally and repetitively can help ensure they learn the skills.

Your help with a donation will make all the above possible. My students CAN learn with the extra support and accommodations we can provide them. With this technology, they can reach the potential that they've always had.
