Second graders becoming masters of math? Each day my students strive to be just that. They work hard at mastering math skills so they earn math master time. This time is a time that they get to extend math skills using games. My students' understanding of math and motivation of wanting to learn math has never been higher. Our school is in a low income area so our parents do not always have the money to support our classroom needs. We are also a school only in its second year. This means there is not a lot of funding for teachers and our individual ideas yet. All of our funding goes toward meeting whole school needs that are still not met. I have exhausted all my resources to continue this math master motivation; included my own personal money, online resources and getting donations from family members. We are to the point of needed some new games for our new topics. The 3 games I chose are games that, in the past, second graders in our area have struggled with. Clock dominoes would provided a much needed exposure to telling time. Estimating is always a struggle, students not understanding why to use this skill or how. Using games to teach these math skills will help establish an understanding. Your help will ensure that my students continue becoming masters of math. It will mean they continue to master math skills using games that are highly motivational.
