My students need 44 book titles and 20 subscriptions to Time For Kids.

I teach kindergarten in a Title I school in an urban neighborhood. The school is public and it is located in a high need community. Title I status indicates that many of my students live at or below the poverty line and so qualify for free lunch.

This year my school opened several new kindergarten classrooms and mine was one of them. Unfortunately, there was not enough funding to properly furnish and supply the classroom. I am lacking some of even the most basic supplies for my students such as "Just Right" books that students can read on their own.

Well, what am I going to do about this? Aside from racking up fees at the local library, this is where you come in... We need many many fabulous books to furnish our library and make it as amazing as possible. I am requesting many books from the "I Can Read" level 1 series. Books about characters such as Mittens and Biscuit are perfect for helping my students begin reading. In addition, I am requesting a number of titles by the classic favorite children's book author... Dr. Seuss! I learned to read with Dr. Seuss and I am certain my students will as well. I am also requesting a subscription to Time For Kids, a great magazine for children that they will hopefully be able to read on their own by the end of the school year. This magazine will make the children feel so grown up as it has glossy color pictures and feels like a real adult magazine. Furthermore, it will help the students learn about current events and practice reading non-fiction.
