I teach Biology I and II as well as AP Biology. Our school is a high need school with no funding for the science department. The students in my classes are in the 9th - 12th grade.

Students are fascinated with Genetics and Forensics. They love to watch crime shows like CSI. The technology used to solve crimes is out of the reach of many people. My Biology II and AP Biology students plan to attend college and most of them plan to major in some sort of science. These materials are a necessary component to the curriculum of these courses.

By teaching Genetics, the students develop a love of science. Making a necklace with the student's own DNA lets them see the physical evidence of their learning. The DNA necklaces will provide the students with a keepsake of their class experience. The DNA electrophoresis lab station brings those crime shows into the classroom. Students will get to conduct many of the tests that they see on TV, but learn at the same time. Science is so important for many careers.

Your help will give the students to see the real world application of the material that they are learning. Most of my students go on to college and these materials will help them develop a better understanding of genetics prior to their college biology courses.
