I am a fifth grade math and science teacher in an urban public school system. We have a wonderful team of teachers and great students! Most of our student population consists of students who constantly move from one place to another, and receive free or reduced lunch because of their family's income status. Our area, like so many others, has been hit hard by job loss and other economic concerns. Our district received significantly less federal funding this year, therefore teachers have the need to count on outside sources to help fund necessary classroom projects and materials. I am so thankful for the donors at Donors Choose!

Our area was mostly founded on agriculture and textiles, and since most of those jobs are no longer functioning in this region there has been a big shift to manufacturing and technology. Our school system is trying to prepare students in these specialties. It is also important that students successfully master objectives being taught in order to pass state benchmarks at the end of the year.

In order for students to be prepared and master state objectives successfully, I am asking for the donation of a portable document camera. Having this important piece of technology in my classroom will enable me to project images from paper, pictures, exams, etc. onto a projection screen for the entire class to see at one time. This is important so no one is left behind, and is needed to increase appropriate classroom behavior since I won't have to turn my back to the class to write on the board. The document camera will allow me to discuss test-taking strategies with the class as well as review exam questions with students for better mastery.

Your generous donation will make it possible for my students to have access to new technology as well as gain mastery of objectives being taught. This project is very important to me and the success of my students; your time and generosity will be much appreciated for years to come!
