Motivating Students Through Technology I teach 4th grade at public, low income school in North Dakota. Our small school has limited resources and infinite needs. Our schools is becoming more and more transient and we are getting students with large holes in their education.

My students are struggling readers. Overall, my students are not motivated to read because they are active and need to move around a lot to learn. In order for students to become better readers, they need to practice reading!

By using a flip video recorder, my students will be able to read aloud and act out their reading. This will increase motivation (because all students love to see themselves on the TV), and will increase reading participation because students will be up and moving around to record themselves. They also will be help accountable for their reading because it'll be filmed. Students will be reading more and practicing more to use this technology. Students can use the flip recorders to do book reports which will reinforce their reading and possibly encourage someone else to read that same book.

The simple use of a flip phone may turn a struggling reading into a reading star. It may be such the thing that makes all the difference and allows students to see that reading is fun!
