And the Award Goes To?

My students need the new children's Sequoyah books which consist of 16 titles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach reading, math, social studies, and science to 24 fifth grade students in a high-need community.

My students love to read and to be read to by me. After our school librarian introduced the 16 new books on the Sequoyah Masterlist, my students were clamoring to start reading. With only one copy of each book in our school library, the job of reading all 16 books so that they can find their favorite will be a long process. I have challenged each student to read all 16 books before they participate in the Oklahoma state voting for the 2010 winner.

My student asked me if I could find copies of the books to include in our classroom library so that they will be prepared for the state vote. Besides reading each book, the students could do a variety of activities with each book if the books were available to them for extended lengths of time.

Your help will give my students the opportunity to completely immersed themselves in great literature. They can vote for their favorite. They will be the winners!
