My Chemistry class offers a lot of student choice, in the same period a wide variety of activities go on from book to computer to Bunsen burners. Students are challenged but set their own path to achieve class standards.
We recently got funded to equip each student in our high school with a NetBook laptop. The science department owns several digital thermometers and pH probes but only one CBL2 interface for them to work with the laptops. With out this equipment to connect the two, it will just gather dust in a locked storage room. I have students interested but need to involve more.
Two CBL2 interfaces will allow myself and two other chemistry teachers to run experiments with the computer taking data and graphing in real time. Help take my classroom out of the stone age of pH paper and cheap thermometer that are not accurate and help us use the technology we have.
I have a great lab that will allow students to keep track of pH and temperature during a neutralization reaction of an acid and a base. There is a direct relationship between these two variables and the neutralization point is often hard to catch using our old equipment. The digital probeware is what scientists would use, why not this generation of scientists?
