String Instruments Without Strings

My students need 15 sets of cello strings and 4 sets of viola strings in order to play their instruments.

I teach instrumental music to grades Pre-School to 5th. It is a magnet school in a large urban school district. A large portion of our student body receives free or reduced lunch. We will provide any student wanting to study an instrument with one.

Our school has a very successful violin program. As elementary students they have performed on some of the biggest stages our city has. This summer, our school was given violas, cellos and basses to help our program grow. These instruments came in all conditions from ready to play to falling apart. The music budget was cut to only 4% of what we had last year. With my own money I was able to get some of these instruments in working condition, however, strings were out of my price range. Now I have these instruments sitting in the room as a tease to these students without strings. I have no money to get strings. We would really like to have a full string orchestra with your help.

Strings are a basic need to play violin, viola, cello or bass. Without strings no music will come from these instruments. It is that simple. Help the music come from these instruments.

Studies have shown that students that study music score higher in math and on standard test. These students have been great violin students but in order to become better musicians these students should have an opportunity to study viola, cello and bass. Imagine seeing a cello, wanting to play it, but can't because there are no strings on it and your teacher does not have the money to get you strings. These students are our future doctors, lawyers, teacher, artist and musicians. Don't let their dreams die at a young age.
