I teach 25 Kindergarten students in an inner-city school setting. Many parents of my students work, and I do not get to see them each day. They depend on written classroom communications.

Communication between home and school is critical, and is an integral piece to student success. Parents need to not only see what their child is doing in school (daily practice sheets), but also receive communications regarding dismissals, progress reports, literacy and numeracy informational newsletters, take-home books, sight words cards and our classroom weekly newsletter. Our classroom currently does not have any place to store the folders I have bought the students, which they use to take home these important papers, in addition to their homework. It takes a lot of filing time to sort through every student's papers that need to be sent home.

Our students need two Communication Centers to facilitate the ongoing communication between home and school. These centers would allow each student to have a shelf to store his/her papers as they are finished with them, as well as any notes that need to be sent home. It allows for student responsibility as well, as it will be up to the students to put their papers in their own slot, and collect them into their folders at the end of the day.

Your help will ensure that my students and their families will have timely communication with our classroom. Papers, newsletters, and forms will get home in an efficient manner, without taking precious instruction time getting them sorted into each student's take-home folder.
