Parenting Simulator for Jr. High Students

My students need an empathy belly pregnancy simulation kit.

I teach Family and Consumer Science (formerly Home Ec.) to 7th and 8th grade students. Our class teaches information about sewing, child development, money management, housing, and foods. Many parents and myself believe that students need to make more responsible choices about parenting. By the time many students are in high school they are already sexually active. During my 8th grade child development unit we discuss the many aspects of parenting and child care. We base our curriculum around abstinence and the importance of making good educated decisions. The empathy belly I'm requesting will give the students first hand experience in the physical effect of being pregnant.

Students during the child development will study the effects of teen pregnancy and how it impacts our society. An empathy belly will give students an opportunity to experience the physical effects of being pregnant. We have a high percentage of teen pregnancy at the high school level, just like many other schools. We encourage abstinence and educate the students on the physical and financial responsibilities that come with parenting.

The empathy belly pregnancy simulator enable teens to experience over 20 symptoms and the effects of pregnancy. The empathy belly and the resources that come with it will discourage those students that think that having a baby is cool from making unwise and uninformed decisions.

Your donation will make it possible to demonstrate the responsibilities and physical discomfort of having a baby. Students who wear the empathy belly will be required to do an obstacle course of the routine activities of a pregnant women, such as picking up items off the floor and putting their shoes on. By the time students are in High School it is almost too late to educate students on the seriousness of teen pregnancy, I hope that you will help us make a difference in student's future decisions.
