Share Three Cups Of Tea With 150 Teenagers

My students need 30 classroom copies of the book, "Three Cups of Tea."

My classroom of 150 seventh graders is full of high energy kids; they come from a variety of backgrounds and needs. One thing they all share is the need for reading. If we are able to get students hooked into reading at a young age, we will be able to propel their futures.

The students I teach need to have opportunities to read different types of book and learn about different types of cultures. They live in a very isolated place, and bringing the world to them will help break down barriers.

I would like to start building my classroom library with class sets of books that bring different cultures into my classroom. The first book I have chosen is Three Cups of Tea. Three Cups of Tea describes a man’s transition from a mountain-climber to a humanitarian committed to reducing poverty and educating girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The book's title comes from a Balti proverb: "The first time you share tea with a Balti, you are a stranger. The second time you take tea, you are an honored guest. The third time you share a cup of tea, you become family.” Become part of my classroom family, and share this book with my students.
