Perfect Paper

My students need 10 printing screens(10 X 14) to make recycled paper when I teach a unit on recycling.

Nothing motivates kids to want to recycle like actually making something that can be used again! My first grade students would love to see the entire process of making new paper from old paper. My students are from a rural area, and they are socially disadvantaged. So to teach them to reuse resources will be a wonderful life lesson.

When I read a book to my students about making paper during a unit on recycling, they became so excited. But I told them I did not have the screen frames that were needed to make the paper.

I have a blender and I certainly can get my hands on old paper, but our budget doesn't support buying screen frames. The frames are essential to the entire process of making paper.

Once we have made the new paper, we plan to make Christmas cards to send to students' parents who are currently deployed. (We live in a military community.) You have the ability to make a serviceperson's holiday a little brighter by receiving a card on our "perfect paper".
