Learning MACBOOK for Drama Co

My students need a Macbook Pro in order to start learning how to use theatre-related applications such as QLab.

My Students

My theatre students have built a community over the last four years. When I arrived at my school, we only had 25 students auditioning for the play and musical and one theatre class. Now, we have three or four theatre classes a year and over 150 students involved in cast, crew, production staff, or pit band. Our students have taken on more and more responsibility and have sought professional development to enhance their theatre skills. For example, some of our tech students work at local community and professional theatres as apprentices learning how to do lights, sound, stagecraft, etc.

Our drama company and classes have become a second family to many of our students, which has brought together a diverse group of students, teachers, and parents that represent the the African-American, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+ communities just to name a few.

My Project

In an effort to teach our students professional software and applications for theatre tech, we will need to a MacBook Pro for design purposes. MacBooks are well equipped for visual editing software such video and photo applications. Also, it's a standard industry to edit and design soundbites on MacBooks. Finally, the most important aspect for our theatre class is to use production software such as QLab, which allow our students to program complex, layered lighting and sound cues.

A MacBook Pro will allow our students to have a new, hands on learning experience, and also allow outside teachers and artists to expand our student's knowledge.

An introduction to these tools in high school will help them attain scholarships, attend rigorous colleges, or even jump into the community theatre scene.
