Sight Word Bru-Ha-Ha

My students need five activities to build sight word fluency including bingo, magnetic words, puzzles and rubber stamps.

I am privileged to teach kindergarten at a small charter school in a Southern California community. Our school is a safe haven for children living in a gang-ridden, violent neighborhood. All of our students qualify for free breakfast, lunch, and before- and after-school programs. Our student body is 60% African-American and 40% Hispanic, with a large population of English language learners.

Learning sight words speeds up decoding, increases comprehension, and enhances the joy of reading. Therefore, learning sight words is an important component of kindergarten literacy.

I am asking for games and activities that will help my students "play" with sight words in order to improve their reading. We have flashcards and songs, but I need more activities to keep the repetition "fresh".
