I just started a Human Anatomy and Physiology course for 11th and 12th graders in a community where science seems to be fading into the background behind literacy and mathematics.

Human Anatomy and Physiology is an exciting and relevant topic that high school students are very interested in. Many students have difficulty understanding the cardiovascular adaptations that occur with exercise, which is essential to their comprehension of the connections between anatomy and physiology.

The stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and electronic blood pressure monitor will allow my students to understand the cardiovascular adaptations that occur with exercise. The stethoscopes will allow students to measure heart rate, and compare resting and exercise values. The blood pressure cuffs will teach my students how to take blood pressure, and allow them to compare exercise and resting values. The electronic blood pressure cuff will allow students to check their accuracy in measuring blood pressure by comparing the values to the manual number from the blood pressure cuffs, and give students the opportunity to know their own numbers.

Your help will ensure that my students understand the appropriate relationship between the cardiovascular adaptations that occur with exercise, as well as know their own heart rate and blood pressure numbers. These laboratory activities will allow students to dive deeply into our much anticipated Human Anatomy and Physiology course.
