Urban City To Park Environment

My students need 13 supplies for creating an indoor garden, such as plant containers, soil, seeds, and different plant/flower books for our emerging readers.

My 15 students are from an urban city in NJ and I would like to expose them to nature and her wonders.

Children from this city area do not not see the beauty of nature or the benefits we reap from her. There view of the world is of tall buildings, some new and some not so new, and noisy streets. By planting flower seeds and fruits or vegetables, I can help them view a different kind world.

I would need emerging reading books, big books related to the topic at hand, small pots, shovels for dirt, seeds, a watering can, clear bags so the children can watch their plants grow. A worm farm would also help to increase student's awareness of how worms are important to the soil.

Planting will increase students awareness that nurturing something so small as a seed t can grow into something so beautiful and useful. Their daily participation will help them in following directions, expose them to new vocabulary words, increase fine motor skills and give them a responsibility which will increase their self esteem.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
