"I teach 8th grade English at a title one middle school in South Carolina. The majority of my students come from single parent homes and high- need communities.

Since many of my students come from harsh realities where role models may be hard to find my job as a teacher goes beyond just helping them learn to read and write effectively. A huge goal for me is to help them grow into effective citizens. Hill Harper's books are one tool that I can utilize to inspire my students to change their circumstances.

I am not able to go to each of my students homes each night. I can't take them all somewhere and show them new ways to behave. I can show them successful men and women who have similar situations and how they handled them. These books will give my students tangible example of success.
