Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 8th grade English at a title one middle school in South Carolina. The majority of my students come from single parent homes and high- need communities.

Since many of my students come from harsh realities where role models may be hard to find my job as a teacher goes beyond just helping them learn to read and write effectively. A huge goal for me is to help them grow into effective citizens. Hill Harper's books are one tool that I can utilize to inspire my students to change their circumstances.

I am not able to go to each of my students homes each night. I can't take them all somewhere and show them new ways to behave. I can show them successful men and women who have similar situations and how they handled them. These books will give my students tangible example of success.

Your help will ensure that my students are given as much guidance as possible to help shape their futures.
