CRAVE ~ Children Raising their Achievement Via Electronics

My students need 2 netbooks computers.

This project expired on March 22, 2010.

Why are some students using pencil and paper when the rest of the world is living digitally? My second graders are highly motivated by technology and the world that opens up to them through it ~ and motivation increases learning! My kiddos come from working class families, which means that my school doesn't qualify to receive federal money. We rely heavily on the wonderful families who contribute to our school to help us afford laptops, CD players, etc. With over 400 students in our school and only 28 laptops, the demand is too high to really do the kinds of digital learning that my second graders deserve! By opening your heart through DonorsChoose.org, you open their world!

My students love to use the Internet for navigating through webquests, researching science topics, even playing spelling and mathematics games! Our school has a 14:1 ratio of students to laptops, and we are missing out on the opportunity to reach every child's fullest potential.

I would love to have 2 netbooks available at all times to my second graders for individual projects, as well as for collaborative partner work. My students have been introduced to blogging through books studies, as well as PowerPoint, webquests, and interactive games and activities during the 60 minutes per week we are able to get in the computer lab ~ but it's not enough! I want to engage my students in these sorts of creative avenues of learning, while preparing them to live in a digital age. With the consistent access to the electronic world, my students can become global in their learning through international pen pal activities, state-to-state classroom studies, and Web 2.0 learning experiences (like wikis, blogging, etc.)

Your donation makes it possible for my students to live digitally, globally, and best of all, to live with vigor for learning.
