Writing Effectively By Reading Efficiently

My students need 20 copies of the AP class textbook "50 Essays: A Portable Anthology" by Samuel Cohen.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Composition instructor for the 11th grade gifted student population in my school. I have the honor of teaching many minority, low-income students who are college-bound and capable of participating in a challenging curriculum.

My students deserve the opportunity to take part in a classroom environment that prepares them for the rigors of college and teaches them to be successful learners. With this in mind, my greatest undertakings for the upcoming school year will not only be how to provide a rigorous and relevant learning environment for my students, but also, how to get them the essential classroom tools for a productive school year. Unfortunately, with all the budget cuts, the school district is currently in debt and they cannot afford to pay for any additional books for the classroom. Also, we cannot ask and expect our students to purchase these books because the majority of them are low-income (free or reduced lunch) so their families are unable to afford this additional expense. As a result, I have come to donorschoose for assistance.

The donations will provide required READERS or TEXTS that are a critical part of the AP Language and Composition course. With these books, students will be better prepared for the AP exam and will also develop life-long learning skills of writing effectively and reading efficiently; these skills will benefit them in college and the future. Moreover, if students perform well on the AP exam, they will have the opportunity to attain college credit for courses which is a success they can celebrate among others that participating in an AP class will afford them. Considering these advantages, it is imperative that students have access to this key resource: “50 Essays: A Portable Anthology” so they can become effective writers by being efficient readers.

In summary, your generous donations will make it possible for all of my students to have the crucial learning tool, which can help them to become well-rounded and successful students.
