I teach GATE: gifted and talented education grades 3, 4, and 5. These kids are misfits in their regular classroom so they come to me 150 minutes a week to socialize and think in their unique ways. My job is to teach them both cognitive and social skills because they have the potential to be the leaders of the world, but they need encouragement and a support system. That is my job through cognitive, social, and service learning projects.

Computers are the way of the present and future, but schools are so far behind in offering this technology to its students. My students sit in a windowless portable and I ask them to conceptualize the world they live in and contribute to it. My charge to them seems absurd without offering them the tools to complete this task. Computers are the way to give these students the world.

Research shows that gifted children are interested in the world around them. Research says gifted children need to have opportunities to contribute to the world around them. I believe bringing the world to them through computers is the way to let my gifted students explore the world and contribute to it.
