I teach 3rd grade in a Title 1, high-need school in CA that has suffered from the budget cuts.

Reading is tough, especially when you don't understand. 3rd grade students need to work on their comprehension so they can understand what they are reading. The students can decode most words- they do all this hard work then we ask, "What did you read?" Our students do listening centers in younger grades, they get to 3rd grade and miss them.

The 3rd grade team at our school has decided that listening centers are important for our students too. They like them, and we can use them to help with the hardest part of 3rd grade-comprehension. We just need to get the centers up and running. These resources will provide our students a chance to practice comprehension- in a non-threatening way. They can check their own work, and evaluate themselves. I'd like the non-fiction and fiction sets of these reading to expose the students to as many reading genres as possible. The write and wipe concept saves paper, and lets student try, try again.

You will make it possible for our students to evaluate their own reading. Making reading important and meaningful for each student. My class would be sharing these resources with the other 3rd grades, so you would be giving to 100 students!
