I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade gifted students in the areas of Reading and English, and we spend a great deal of time in the writing process. My students go through many revisions of stories, essays, and poems, and they simply do not have the room to do it all. The desks that they are currently working in are small and cramped, and the students often get very frustrated with their lack of personal space to work. On any given day, you will see my students' work spread all over the place. They have papers on more than one desk, on the floor, and on the computer table. Their desks do not offer sufficient room to work, and their frustration shows. They have begged me numerous times to get new tables, and I feel as though it is time to have their wishes granted. In order to remedy this problem, I would like to order four tables and sixteen stackable chairs. I feel that working at tables will give the students more space to work. Having these tables in the classroom will allow my students to utilize as much space as possible, work collaboratively on various stages of the writing process, and have fewer distractions as they are developing ideas. Thank you very much for considering this proposal.
