Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach introduction to business for eighth graders at a charter middle school in California. The course includes lessons in savings, investing, entrepreneurship, and economics.

Our students come from under resourced areas and we are trying to close the gap in financial literacy. Financial literacy is a subject that often is left out of middle school curriculum, yet is a crucial piece to the real world puzzle for many of our students. Business books are a very costly expense for our school as they do not cost the same as traditional reading literature. However, books like the "New Totally Awesome Business Book" offer nonfiction business writing that cannot be matched by other books or literature.

The "New Totally Awesome Business Book For Kids" is an excellent business book that allows our students to explore concepts of economics in a fun and interesting way. The antidotes and real world examples provide authentic examples of economics written with prose middle school students can understand. It will provide good introductions to key business concepts taught in the class, as well as spark interests for various projects.

Your help will further support our mission in encouraging our minority youth, especially our young women, to explore careers in business, economics and marketing. The books provide an opportunity to explore some key concepts vital to understanding how our business world operates.
