Train Ride through America-A Reading Adventure of the USA

My students need 30 book titles from "A Walk in the Prairie" to "Civil Liberties."

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Pride in being an American begins in the classroom. I know because in my second grade classroom I am witness to a hunger for knowledge about this great nation. However, I work in a school district of a low income working class immigrant population. This presents a challenge as I try to enrich the social studies and reading curriculum with an appreciation and pride in America. Many parents do not have the history of the American story to share.

Having the opportunity exist for my students to be immersed in stories and literature will help them to grow up to be proud and good American citizens. It also will enable my students to have the potential to change their community by having more pride in being a citizen of the greatest nation on earth.

I need books. To be more specific, I need 30 books that share the American experience. The reality is that although a Social Studies textbook is a good tool, it is not enough to capture the hearts and minds of these young immigrant and first generation Americans that have a hunger for knowledge of this great land.

Your help will ensure that my students will have the chance to grow up with a deeper understanding and knowledge of the unique experience called America.
