Help Me Put Books Into My Students' Hands and Homes!

My special needs students need 28 books including "Snowy Treasury", "Magic Tree House - Thanksgiving On Thursday", and "Junie B. Jones Graduation Girl".

Don’t you just love the feeling you get when you open up a new book and dive into reading it? Can you remember the excitement you felt as a young child when you were given a new book? Do you remember feeling the crisp new pages of the book under your fingertips, glancing through the beautiful pictures, reading the first few words and wondering what new adventure you’d be taking, and what new friends you’d be making in the main characters? I’m a special education teacher who wants to inspire my students to read. Research shows that even a little reading helps children become better at learning. It’s also a fun and imaginative activity that opens doors to new and exciting worlds. I work in a Title 1 School in a very low income area. Many Title 1 students don’t have books at home simply because their parents can’t afford them. In fact, the US Department of Education estimates as many as 61 percent of low-income (Title 1 School) families have no children’s books in their homes. I want to put books into the hands of my sweet, enthusiastic, little learners. With your help we can provide books (Magic Tree House - Thanksgiving On Thursday, Jan Brett’s, Winter Treasury, Junie B. Jones Graduation Girl) that my students will treasure and keep forever. My plan is to distribute the books before each major educational break in the school year. My hope is that this literacy project will benefit the parents, too. My student’s parents have enormous responsibilities raising their special needs children. Providing a few extra books and fun follow- up activities sent home over the break often makes life a little easier for parents. I have found as an educator that sometimes it’s the little things that make life a little nicer for my students and parents. Won’t you help provide three wonderful children’s books for each of my special needs students? I think the books I have chosen will really excite my students and provide hours of educational enjoyment during our major school breaks. Thanks for supporting literacy in education and in the home!
