The course that I teach is Radio - which includes classes in Production, Programming, Media Law and Ethics as well as the History of Radio. I teach grades 8 through 12. This is the inaugural year of a new magnet for arts and humanities in an urban setting. Media Communication is a cornerstone program within the magnet. The focus is on enhancing student communication skills for the industry, academics, career pursuits and life.

A critical aspect of radio communication is the interview process. It is also important for students to learn to provide descriptions of remote activities for those tuned in to the radio without the benefit of television. Recording devices are essential for both. Our program currently has no such supplies which places us at a handicap. Students are energetic in learning the fundamentals of interview and reporting. This equipment will enable them to put it into practice.

The solution is student access to quality digital portable recording devices. Sony voice activated recorders are industry standards and will facilitate student efforts to learn and excel this area of study.

Your help will enable students to gain communication skills that enhance their pursuit of careers in media. More importantly, those same skills will benefit all of their other academic studies and provide a foundation for post-secondary and career confidence in writing and verbal skills.
