"We need more young women in science! I am a middle school science teacher at a new (only 3 years old!) all-girls, public school in NYC. We have very low funds this year, but do not want to sacrifice the learning of our students. Our students are very interested in science, but lab experiments are hard to successfully accomplish without the proper materials. Right now, the students struggle to find room in already crowded classrooms, and they do not have a sense of what a real science lab could feel and look like. We need, therefore, one lab stool per student so that they can make use of the lab surfaces in the classroom. Right now, all we have are chairs that were donated to us, that are not adequate for completing lab experiments. Moreover, our young girls need to experience what it is like to be in a real lab environment, so that they can channel their excitement for science into future careers! You will make it possible for our students -- all young, capable women -- to reach their full potentials as science students, and thereby add to a world that needs more scientists and engineers who are women.
My students need 28 lab stools for their science classroom.

Dear Babak Nivi, Elizabeth & Jeremiah, Chris, JPMorgan Chase, Nicola, Jake M, Brian, Erica, Lindsey, Adam, Lisa, Courtney, Christine, Roseanne Wincek, Nicole, Justin, Anna, Phoebe, Sara and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you for your generosity!!! You have committed to inspiring our students -- young female scientists -- for years to come! This year has been an especially challenging one for our school, as we are growing in a tough economy. It is kind, thoughtful people like you that make our continued hard work as teachers possible. Not only am I grateful, but our students will be over the moon. Most have never even experienced what "real science" feels like -- so here's our chance! Our school, and the greater scientific community, thank you! With gratitude, Ms. C.
