I teach K-5 music in a high-needs area in Oregon. Over half our student population speaks a language other than English at home.
Good books are a precious commodity in my school's attendance area. I want to expose my students to quality literature that ties in with music concepts.
Most of the books I am requesting are based on children's songs or have a focus on a music concept. Seeing illustrated versions of the songs, for example, "Hush, Little Baby" or Pete Seeger's "Abiyoyo," makes the songs come alive for many students.
As mentioned above, most of the books I'm requesting for my classroom are based on songs and will be shared with kids in whole-group sessions as well as being put into my classroom library for individual access. A few of the books are for helping the teacher use the resources to the best advantage.
