Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Reading is the key... I teach first grade dual immersion at a charter school in a downtown area that is of low income and some poverty. We are a new school and rely heavily on donations for any enriching supplies and materials.

Due to our school's financial situation, what teachers buy is what students get. Unfortunately, due to my own budget restraints this year, I don't have as much income to spend on my first graders. I truly believe that they deserve these items in order to increase reading motivation, accuracy, and comprehension.

I would like to provide each student with a reading tracker to read with at home and at school. These trackers are great for beginning reading skills and increase reading motivation. In addition, you could also help to increase reading accuracy and decoding by helping each of my students accurately hear what sounds they are producing when they are reading. Currently I have 1 of these "hear myself" phones in my class and through sharing I have seen great improvements in struggling readers. Please help me provide this support to all of my beginning readers by donating one phonics phone for each student.
