Sharp Kids Needed for Learning!

My students need a quality pencil sharpener and 20 boxes of pencils.

A class that needs sharpening! I teach fourth grade in a high poverty community and we are a Title-1 school. Our funds have been cut back drastically, so I could not buy a new pencil sharpener or quality pencils for our class this year.

The pencil sharpener I do have is dull and the students are constantly spending time trying to sharpen their pencils. Our students bring in school supplies to share with the class. Because many of our families cannot afford supplies, I do not have enough pencils to last the school year. The pencils that were brought in, are poor quality and are constantly breaking.

Students are spending a couple of minutes sharpening pencils during each activity. It is taking away from their learning and I am having to help them find a good pencil, which takes my one-on-one time away from the students.

Students cannot work if they do not have a good writing utensil that works. If they cannot work, they cannot learn. Every minute is crucial in the classroom. Please help my students have the materials they deserve!
