Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As I look at my 2nd grade class each morning, I see 24 curious, inquisitive minds eager to learn about their surroundings. More than half of them are learning English as a second language. Their parents are committed to their education, as evidenced by their enrollment in a fundamental school, which has high standards for behavior and high expectations for learning.
My students devour the books in our class library, but their never seems to be enough non-fiction at their reading level. Internet searches on current events result in finding articles aimed at older students.
Time for Kids and Scholastic News would feed my students' hunger for information and give them valuable practice in reading non-fiction materials. The ability to read non-fiction is crucial in the upper grades and is an important life skill.
You can make a difference to my class by funding this project. Not only will my students' reading skills be developed, but their desire to learn more about the world around them will be encouraged.
