I teach First Grade in a very rural and low income school district in central Pennsylvania and I want to turn my students into life-long learners who “give a hoot” about each other.

Recently, my district has adopted a new behavior program (SW-PBS, School Wide - Positive Behavior Support) to reduce discipline issues and teach character education. To the students this program is known as “Give a Hoot About Positive Behavior”. Unfortunately, there is not enough money allotted to buy valuable resources needed to properly teach these concepts to my students. Even though we have only been in school for a few weeks now, I have already seen a drastic improvement in how my students are behaving and showing respect to one another.

There are five main areas to this program. They are: show respect, take responsibly, think safety, promote kindness and earn success. To get the best results from this program, I need additional resources for my students and for me to plan appropriate lessons. There are many new and researched based products in the market. I need your help to purchase these for use in the primary classrooms of my school. In this proposal, I have asked for leveled readers to teach the concepts on an age appropriate level, curriculum books for me to use and share with my colleagues, reward coupons for students who exhibit the character traits being taught, a bulletin board for student display and a Yacker Tracker. This will be used by the entire school to help reduce issues in the cafeteria. All of these resources will enhance a program that is working. Please help my students become a valuable part of society.
