We are a 6th grade science class in a high poverty middle school in North Carolina, with the need to have hands on activities to reinforce what we are teaching.

The economic crisis has struck nationwide. Our most noticeable loss is our supply money. With our students being in a high poverty area, getting help from the parents for this type of class need is very difficult.

Last year was my first year teaching 6th grade science. Through something like rocks and minerals, I was able to inspire interest, but not experience with rocks and minerals. My students, from a high poverty area, need the hands on to help solidify the information and link it to real life. This type of hands on activity would be extremely helpful.

Your help supplying these kits will help me encourage my students in science, to see that science isn't a class to suffer through, but a lifestyle that will move them from their high poverty difficult lives, to a career that will change how they see everything, including themselves.
