Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A dragon, a princess, a superhero, a fairy. When kids get into dress-up, their imaginations can transform them into whatever they want to be. I teach full day kindergarten in a high poverty school. There are 31 students in my class, and most of them are English Language Learners.

For many children, putting on costumes or dress-up clothes allows them to become different characters which opens the doorway to imaginative play and storytelling. Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Having a good imagination is critical in developing well-rounded, intelligent children with strong problem-solving skills. In my kindergarten classroom, the students don't have this opportunity because we don't have the materials. They would love a dress-up center that would allow them to use their imaginations.

We would like a starter set of costumes and props to help create a dress-up center. A wide range of basic costumes will foster my students' imaginations and provide endless opportunities for creativity. Dressing up will allow them to play without rules or boundaries, and they will be free to experiment and role play. In addition, playing dress-up will allow them to develop and practice their English language skills in a fun and stress-free way.

Don't you remember all the fun you had playing dress-up as a child? Doesn't that memory bring a smile to your face? Your help will allow my students to develop their imagination and intelligence through dramatic play and dress up in the same way you did.
