Sensory Garden

My outdoor sensory garden project needs a collection of mosaic tiles, a butterfly garden, 11 Grow Your Own Tree Kits, sand scraper and mirrors.

I teach a special education class in Texas that focuses on academics, behaviors, communication and social skills. The sensory garden would not only benefit my students but all the students in the school.

My students need a lot of sensory input. A sensory garden will incorporate all 5 senses. They can see, smell, touch and even taste some plants. They can listen to the chimes blowing in the wind and have projects for other sensory needs.

I would like for the students to make all the projects that will go in the sensory garden. They will each make a stepping stone with their name on the back. They will make a mirrored wall and take scrap pieces of wood to make a garden trellis for vines to grow on.

The special education and general education students work so well together in this school. This will give them the opportunity to make something that will last for years to come. All students in this school will be able to use the sensory garden. They will be able to have class lessons with in the garden. This project will ensure our campus in becoming a "green" school!
